Aston Villa are close to making their first signing of the January window as Crvena Zvezda have secured a replacement for Kosta Nedeljkovic.
The highly-rated right-back is due to sign for Villa after the Premier League club agreed a deal worth £6.5million plus add-ons with Crvena Zvezda. Nedeljkovic is expected to play for the Serbian champions for the rest of the season and then link up with Villa in the summer.
Despite that, Crvena Zvezda appear to have already replaced the 18-year-old after announcing the signing of Ognjen Mimovic from OFK Beograd.
Nedeljkovic has made 12 league appearances this season and only made his Crvena Zvezda first-team debut back in August. He has also featured four times in the Champions League this season in Crvena Zvezda’s group stage games against RB Leipzig, Manchester City and Young Boys.
Calum Chambers will still be allowed to leave the club despite being one of a few players capable of playing at right-back. Matty Cash is currently the only recognised right-back in the team, while Ezri Konsa has operated in that position frequently this season.
Meanwhile, Kaine Kesler-Hayden was recently recalled from his season-long loan Plymouth Argyle. He made 24 appearances for Argyle this season in the Championship and is expected to leave the club either permanently or on another loan in this window.
