Oliver Glasner  avoided repeat of Roy Hodgson error which provoked Palace chiefs

Oliver Glasner has now had his first press conference as Crystal Palace boss and in doing so has provided injury updates.

Injury concerns will be high on Oliver Glasner‘s list of priorities at Crystal Palace with his three standout players all missing.

Michael OIise will be missing long term, while both Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi are expected to return in the short term.

But despite a few nearing returns, Glasner has shared some disappointing news although there is a silver lining to it.

Speaking to the media on Friday, ahead of his first game against Burnley on Saturday afternoon, Glasner shared an update on the fitness of a few key names.

When asked if he’s expecting anyone to return to action against Burnley, he said: “Not for tomorrow – tomorrow will be the same squad vs Everton. Nobody is coming back but nobody is out. Eze had the last two training sessions with.”

The fact that Eze is back in training but Glasner isn’t risking him by rushing him back is a massive positive for Palace and will surely avoid a situation like Hodgson experienced at the end of his term.

Toward the end of his time at Palace, Hodgson came into repeated conflict with the board for his decisions to rush back the likes of Eze and Olise from injury.

This would almost always lead to these players being back on the injured list. Short-term Palace gained with both Eze and Olise being excellent when played, but they wouldn’t last long which meant long-term pain.

In giving Eze an extra week to get back to fitness, Glasner has already changed the culture around injuries at the club for the better.
