Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic is a big fan of San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama.
After the Nuggets beat the Spurs, Jokic showered Wembanyama with high praise.
“He is 19 years old. He is not getting scared of getting tired. He’s playing hard,” Jokic said about Wembanyama. “He doesn’t take it for granted. He’s making mistakes, which is normal. I think the media around him doesn’t help him, but he’s gonna get used to it. He’s gonna change the game, 100%. And he’s already on that path.”
The Spurs are only 3-14 on the season. However, Wembanyama has played well. He’s averaging 19.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.6 blocks while shooting 43.0% from the field, 27.5% from beyond the arc and 82.4% from the free-throw line.
“The guy is guarding everybody on the floor. He can literally guard one through five,” Jokic said about Wembanyama. “And I think that’s a good thing for him, just to learn every possible spot on the floor. Just experience-wise. I’m sure for him it’s hard to chase guys around, just because he was probably playing center back in France.”
The Nuggets beat the Spurs by a final score of 132-120. Jokic finished with 39 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, while Wembanyama put up 22 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and four blocks.
Jokic is widely regarded as the best player in the NBA right now. In a couple of years, we may be giving that title to Wembanyama.
