Nottingham Forest now want 37-year-old eyed by Steve Cooper

Nottingham Forest are looking into the possibility of singing Kasper Schmeichel – with Steve Cooper also wanting him in the summer.

Well, it would appear that Nuno Espirito Santo has had enough of the current goalkeeping situation and now fancies Schmeichel at Forest.

According to Tom Collomosse, the Reds are looking to address this before next week’s transfer deadline – with Schmeichel on the radar.

The experienced goalkeeper was on the shortlist of stoppers at Forest before they landed Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos in the summer.

Both stoppers have made mistakes and now Espirito Santo is hoping to add a new custodian to his ranks before the deadline.

Forest-linked Schmeichel has earned praise during a quality career. Brendan Rodgers called him ‘incredible’ when he managed him at Leicester.

Schmeichel, 37, is currently with Anderlecht having signed for the Belgian club during the summer transfer window from Nice.

In 2016, the stopper helped Leicester defy the odds and lift the Premier League title in one of the biggest shocks in sporting history.

Schmeichel might be available for transfer this month and a move to the Premier League is surely going to be attractive to him.

The man who came through the academy ranks with Manchester City – and also played for Notts County and Leeds – is the first choice with Anderlecht.

That might make prising Schmeichel away a little more tricky for Forest but the lure of Premier League action may prove too strong.

In our view, it’s good to see Espirito Santo addressing the goalkeeper situation, however, and hopefully, a signing can be made before next week’s deadline.
