After making some brilliant moves during the NBA offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers looked like a team that would come into the 2023-24 NBA season as a legitimate title contender in the Western Conference, with superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way once again.
Unfortunately, injuries have ravaged this Lakers team, with a lot of their new players and returning players being in and out of the lineup for different reasons, making it hard for this team to build any continuity.
As a result, the Lakers have been more or less a mediocre team in the league up to this point, and although they’ve played exceptionally well in the NBA’s In-Season Tournament, it hasn’t been great as a season as a whole, which has led some to believe that a blockbuster trade could be on the horizon for Rob Pelinka and company.
Nick Wright of FOX Sports makes the argument that James might be getting a bit antsy at this point in the season and may want the Lakers front office to make some win-now moves to get this team back on track as a title contender in the West, via “First Things First” on Twitter.
Over the last few weeks, there’s been a lot of buzz about the Lakers potentially being interested in trading for Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine in order to get this team back on track.
However, that kind of move would have a considerable impact on this team’s depth due to the enormous contract they’d have to absorb from Chicago.
Only time will tell whether the Lakers will get desperate enough to make this move or if they go in a different direction ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February.
