As he gears up for game number three as Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner has heaped praise onto one man he’s been impressed by.
Oliver Glasner has been in the job for a handful of weeks now and will be getting to know his staff and players while being aware of who he intends to work with long-term.
One man he’s bound to be keen to work with long-term is the current Crystal Palace director of football Dougie Freedman.
But that may not be possible, with Manchester United circling with the ambition of adding Freedman to their new footballing structure.
Speaking during his press conference – as quoted by Edmund Brack – prior to Luton’s visit to Selhurst Park, Glasner has been praising Freedman.
Why Crystal Palace should listen to Glasner and bring talented Austrian duo to Selhurst Park this summer – opinion
“It shows me what I was thinking – here [at Palace] is a great sporting director and a great person. This is how I see Dougie after two weeks and a lot of talks with him.
“He knows all the players all over the world. He is a fantastic guy. He is a great person and a sporting director. If there are these rumours, it shows other clubs see it in the same way.”
From this, it seems clear that the prospect of losing Freedman would be a devastating blow for Palace. But also it doesn’t seem like something that’s an imminent concern for Glasner.
Earlier in the week, the departure of Freedman seemed nothing more than a formality as it was suggested he was keen on the move to United.
But as the week has gone on, there has been a silence around this move, with it also being reported elsewhere that United had distanced themselves from a deal.
As we now sit on a Friday heading into the weekend, it doesn’t sound as though that imminent approach has materialised.
