Max Verstappen spotted in class act with Lewis Hamilton’s father after British Grand Prix

Max Verstappen was spotted engaging in a handshake with Anthony Hamilton after the British Grand Prix on Sunday after his son, Lewis Hamilton, beat the Dutchman to the top step of the podium in front of a sold-out home crowd.

Hamilton and Verstappen have enjoyed their fair share of battles over the years and clashed multiple times on track during their legendary 2021 title fight. However, despite this, there has always been an underlying respect between the pair, and this has been epitomised by the behaviour of the seven-time world champion’s father.

Hamilton and Verstappen have enjoyed their fair share of battles over the years and clashed multiple times on track during their legendary 2021 title fight. However, despite this, there has always been an underlying respect between the pair, and this has been epitomised by the behaviour of the seven-time world champion’s father.

After his son found himself on the wrong end of a controversial end to the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, both Hamiltons conducted themselves impeccably. Anthony was pictured shaking hands with Verstappen, and his father Jos, expressing his respect and congratulating the Dutchman on his first Drivers’ Championship crown.

Nearly three years later, Hamilton Snr shared another handshake with the Dutchman, who is now a three-time world champion en route to his fourth. The 26-year-old hunted his rival down relentlessly during the final stint but could not bridge the gap to the Mercedes driver, who duly ended his winless streak.

Hamilton’s victory at Silverstone was a monumental one on many levels. By taking the chequered flag first, the 39-year-old became the first-ever driver to win nine times at a single event, and the first to pass 300 Grand Prix starts and stand on the top step of the podium afterwards.
