- Another game for the Dallas Mavericks, another night of making NBA history for four-time All-NBA First Teamer Luka Doncic.
Coming off a two-game losing skid, the Mavs came out on fire after having three days off, blowing the Utah Jazz out at home. In the process, Doncic put up a massive triple-double: 40 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists while shooting 14-25 in just 32 minutes of play. The 24-year-old didn’t have to play in the fourth quarter.
Doncic’s latest triple-double made NBA history in more ways than one. He had a 25-point triple-double in the first half alone, the first time that has happened in league history.
After tying Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird for ninth on the all-time triple-double list with his performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday, he passing the all-time great in that category on Wednesday.
Doncic now has sole possession of ninth on the all-time list with 60 triple-doubles, and he’s 14 away from catching James Harden for eighth. Although the statistical accolades are something to celebrate, Doncic will be even more happy that his latest history-making performance came with a much-needed win as well.
The Mavs improved to 12-8 with their win over the Jazz, and now they’ll have a chance to put together their biggest winning streak since the first four games of the season.
Dallas takes on two of the worst three teams in the Western Conference, playing the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. Both games will be on the road before the Mavs return home on Tuesday to take on Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on a second night of a back-to-back.
