Leicester City have been heavily linked with a move for Internazionale midfielder Stefano Sensi this winter but the deal has hit a bump in the road, according to the latest reports.
It was first reported by Calciomercato that the Foxes were weighing up a move for Sensi and that last season’s Champions League finalists were willing to allow the Italy international to leave for just £2.5 million as he has fallen out of favour with manager Simone Inzaghi.
This was recently backed up by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who revealed that Leicester City had escalated their pursuit of the 28-year-old as head coach Enzo Maresca is hoping to find a replacement for loanee Cesare Casadei who was recalled from his stint at the King Power Stadium by his parent club Chelsea.
The EURO 2020 champion with Italy has had very limited game-time this season, making merely four appearances in all competitions, including just three in Serie A. Across these four matches, Sensi has been on the field for a combined total of only 65 minutes.
Furthermore, Sensi’s contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign, meaning he can leave for free in six months, hence why the Nerazzurri were hoping to offload him before the January transfer window closes.
However, this transfer saga may have taken another twist which looks to be bad news for the Foxes. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sempre Inter, the Italian giants may hold off on selling Sensi for as long as possible due to the recent suspensions of Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu.
Inter don’t play again until Sunday, when Sensi will likely be involved in the squad, meaning a transfer to Leicester City could be postponed until deadline day, not sooner.

Maresca will certainly have been hoping to complete the signing of Sensi before Leicester face Birmingham City this weekend in the FA Cup, but it seems as though the earliest that the club can confirm the signing is Monday.
While the club may be disappointed with this news, it’s not the end of the world as the deal still looks like it will come to fruition before Monday night as terms are all but agreed between the two parties already.
