Leeds United submit bid to sign Croatian international

Leeds United have made a transfer bid to sign defender Borna Barisic from Rangers in the January transfer window, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet reported on its website on Friday (12 January) that the Gers are looking to offer the Croatian international a new contract to ward off any potential suitors.

But it added that the Whites are hopeful they can persuade the 31-year-old to make the move to Elland Road as they look to add to their defensive ranks this month.

This is an extremely interesting update in Leeds’ pursuit of a new left-back as Barisic would bring a wealth of experience with him to West Yorkshire.

It’s no surprise to hear that Rangers are keen to tie him down to a new contract as his current deal at Ibrox expires at the end of the season.

The defender has been an almost ever-present for the Gers over the past few years, having made more than 200 appearances for the Scottish club.

But the Whites will be hoping to tempt him to make the switch to the Championship during this window after their options at fullback have been depleted this month.

Daniel Farke would be delighted if he can secure a deal for the Croatian, but it could depend on what offer the Light Blues decide to put on the table for him and whether the West Yorkshire club can match it.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are eyeing a Premier League defender as Farke is set for a transfer blitz.
