Charlie Cresswell set for Leeds United exit

According to a report from Alan Nixon of The Sun, Cresswell is close to agreeing a £3.8 million switch to Ligue 1 side Toulouse.

Cresswell, who has come through the youth ranks at the club, suffered a torrid last 12 months at Elland Road, including a fall-out with manager, Daniel Farke.

While the 21-year-old is a highly talented centre-back, Farke could not manage to give him enough game time.

An exit from Leeds now looks highly likely and the move is ideal for all parties involved.

According to BBC journalist, Adam Pope, the deal looks all set to go through, and the medical is expected next week.

Pope wrote on X: “As per reports Charlie Cresswell set for c. £3.8m move to League 1 side Toulouse. Deal looks set to go through once medical completed next week. The England U21 international has 3 years on his contract at Leeds where he has made 14 appearances.”

Leeds, like many other clubs, need to offload a few players this summer to comply with the EFL’s financial rules.

While Leeds expects to get offers for Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, Illan Meslier and Willy Gnonto, they could also be willing to sell more players who are not in Farke’s immediate plans.

Cresswell impressed heavily on loan at Millwall, and Marcelo Bielsa handed him his debut. He looked like a real asset for the Whites, there is a feeling that the club may not have not done enough justice to him. He has made only 14 appearances for the Whites.

With three years remaining on his contract at Elland Road, the club didn’t show enough faith in the talented centre-back who could have become a regular member of the senior side for years to come.

However, Leeds are getting a decent amount of money from this transfer, which would ease their financial burden a little bit.
