Leeds United player has become target for Champions League club

Archie Gray has been in stunning form for Leeds United this season after breaking into the senior side under Daniel Farke – and now he’s emerged as a ‘major’ January target for Borussia Dortmund.

Gray, still 17, has started 21 of our 24 matches in all competitions and featured in two more as a sub. The young midfielder has also played four times for England, at U19 and U20 level in the first half of 23-24.

Central midfield, a playmaker, or a right-back – Gray has mastered it all. Leeds are confident that he will sign a new contract at Elland Road as soon as he can, when the academy product turns 18 in March.

Dortmund have been linked with Gray before. Reports said last month that Dortmund were rivalling a number of the Premier League’s biggest sides to land the Leeds teen. A similar path to Jude Bellingham.

Now, ESPN claim Dortmund have four ‘major’ targets for the January window. Gray is one of those, as is Tottenham man Sergio Reguilon – on loan at Manchester United. Senny Mayulu and Jorrel Hato, too.

Leeds man Archie Gray a ‘major’ January target for Dortmund

A move to Dortmund may come as tempting. A club that have a history of turning young English players into world-beaters, Jadon Sancho – before he tailed off at Manchester United – and then Bellingham.

A club that are in the Champions League. He would get game time at Dortmund, too. But you get the feeling with Gray that he wants to stay at Leeds and that is where he sees his future. He is grounded.

But, should Leeds fail to gain promotion and Dortmund come calling at the end of the season, it may just turn Gray’s head. One to keep an eye on, but a move for him in January seems increasingly unlikely.
