Leeds United officials are set to meet with Hammarby about a £4m deal to sign defender Nathaniel Adjei this week, according to LUFCFanZone.
Writing on their official Twitter account (2 January), the fan account which former owner Andrea Radrizzani confirmed had sources within the club revealed that personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block in any deal.
Ipswich and Millwall are also interested in the 21-year-old defender, and could be seen as a replacement for Charlie Cresswell who has been linked with an exit from Elland Road this month.
“Leeds United officials will meet with Hammarby this week to discuss the proposed transfer for Nathaniel Adjei, with the asking price between £3-4 million and personal terms not believed to be a stumbling block,” they wrote.
“LUFCFANZONE believes that the 21 year old is also admired by Ipswich Town and Millwall, however Leeds will be the first club to formally speak with Hammarby about the transfer.
“The news comes just one day after Leeds manager Daniel Farke suggested Charlie Cresswell’s future could be away from Leeds United.”
Leeds are obviously looking to be active in the January transfer window, and it seems as though they want to be proactive rather than reactive this time around.
The Whites were forced to consistently react in the summer when they lost players on loan deals and late in the window, but the tables have turned this time around and they are more in the driver’s seat.
If the club bring in Adjei then they would be strengthening the central defensive area of the pitch, which would then allow them to move Cresswell on if that’s what he wants whether it be permanently or temporarily.
But Leeds wouldn’t be in a worse position for their promotion push to get back into the Premier League if they could get this done, while they’d likely make a bit of a profit too.
It’s smart business from the club and is a positive sign for the way the club is being run, so this is certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks.
