Wrexham achieved promotion from League Two at the first time of asking and Crewe Alexandra boss Lee Bell says they deserve more credit.
It was a momentous occasion last weekend as Wrexham won promotion to League One by thrashing Forest Green Rovers 6-0.
Although armed by their Hollywood owner’s huge budget, going up for the second consecutive season is an achievement the club should be proud of.
Sadly, many people have refused to praise Wrexham and believe they should be finishing in the top three anyway given Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are at the helm.
Despite possessing an advantage over their rivals, attracting ex-Premier League players Steven Fletcher and James McClean to the club, Phil Parkinson still deserves immense credit for dragging his side to glory.
That is a sentiment shared by Crewe Alexandra manager Lee Bell, who praised Wrexham ahead of their showdown.
Crewe Alexandra boss Lee Bell drops praise for Wrexham
Wrexham travelled to Crewe last night in preparation for this afternoon’s clash.
The Reds are looking to finish above Mansfield Town in the table with both sides currently locked on 82 points.
As Parkinson’s squad dust off their promotion celebrations, Crewe boss Lee Bell has revealed why Wrexham’s players and staff deserve the credit for achieving success, not just the financial backing of McElhenney and Reynolds.
“They have famous owners and I think a lot of it gets deflected away from the players and staff,” Bell told Crewe’s website. “They’ve done brilliantly to get out of this division – congratulations to them.
“I don’t think the players and staff are getting as much credit as they deserve. They have been consistent and in-and-around the top three for a massive part of the season.”
Bell’s classy comments just show some people appreciate the job Parkinson has done, regardless of whether he has the biggest budget to spend.
Phil Parkinson can take Wrexham higher
EFL pundit Sam Parkin believes there will come a time when Wrexham part ways with Parkinson and opt for a manager who plays a possession-based style.
The former Bradford City manager has enough credit in the bank to continue his job at the Racecourse Ground, not just for his impressive work in Wales, but for his experiences elsewhere.
Having previously achieved promotions from League One with Colchester United and Bolton Wanderers, the 56-year-old knows this league like the back of his hand.
He’s also proven he can get the best out of his players, and that is an invaluable trait to have at any level.
Wrexham are already being tipped to challenge near the top end of the third tier, an ambition that seems possible as long as Parkinson, McElhenney and Reynolds are all pulling in the same direction.
