Ki-Jana Hoever transfer latest as Wolves take Stoke City loan duo to US amid availability claims

Ki-Jana Hoever and Luke Cundle are with Wolves on a training camp in Florida amid reports that Hoever’s availability for transfer is being circulated.

Hoever, aged 22, has spent the last season-and-a-half on loan at Stoke City and shown his potential at right-back in the Championship, particularly in an attacking sense. No one has scored more goals for Stoke than him during that time, although that also might say a lot about the work Stoke need to do to improve their forward line this summer.

He signed a five-year contract with Wolves before returning to the bet365 Stadium in 2023 but his chances of a first team breakthrough in the Premier League look slimmer following the big money signing of Pedro Lima, aged 18, from Sport Recife. Gary O’Neil has been using Nelson Semedo and Matt Doherty in that role.

There are whispers in the Netherlands that he has been offered by his agent to FC Twente and that “talks between Twente and the agent are ongoing”. Twente have been trying new signing Youri Regeer as a converted midfielder replacement at right-back for Joshua Brenet, who has left the club. Iceland defender Alfons Sampsted is also on their books.

For now, Hoever and Cundle are getting the opportunity to try to work their way into favour under Gary O’Neil in Fort Lauderdale. They have friendlies coming up against West Ham, Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig.

Junior Tchamadeu has the chance to stake his claim to be Steven Schumacher’s first choice at right-back this season. Mehdi Leris has been tried out in that position too while Lynden Gooch has been used on the left wing in the last two friendlies. Stoke continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly at Stockport County on Saturday (2pm).
