We aren’t even two months into the NBA season and there have already been multiple calls for the Los Angeles Lakers to make a trade for a third-star player.
LA has seen ups and downs so far to start the year, but they are just now getting fully healthy. The injury bug has hit the Lakers hard to start the season, and it caused the team to drop some games that they should have won. But even as they get healthy, they are still looking to improve the team.
The biggest name connected to them is All-Star guard Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls. LaVine has been out the last few games dealing with an injury, but there is a good chance he gets traded before the trade deadline.
LaVine has been linked to the Lakers for years, and this could be the time to make it happen. And, Klutch Sports, his representation, is pushing to have him dealt to the Lakers.
“The Bulls have been linked to the Lakers and Raptors in the rumor mill, but multiple sources said LaVine and his representation obviously want Los Angeles because of the Klutch Sports connection.”
Klutch has a connection with the Lakers due to stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so it makes sense. Plus, the brand of the Lakers would boost LaVine up even more. He played his college basketball at UCLA, so it would be a homecoming of sorts for the guard.
The Lakers could use LaVine’s scoring ability and ball-handling skills to take some of the pressure off James. But the biggest issue is that a trade for him would be taking on his contract. He has four years left on his deal, earning over $40 million a season.
Plus, any deal would deplete some of the depth that the Lakers have built up. The front office may not be willing to do that, but LaVine would give them a better chance to win the championship this season.
The Lakers have some decisions to make over the next few weeks, but LaVine remains a strong possibility. This is the time to take advantage of everything, while James is still on the roster.
