As the Los Angeles Lakers continue their season, the talk about them adding a third star to fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis will keep growing.
LA has long been searching for a third complimentary star, but so far, they haven’t been able to find one. There has been talk about the team possibly being interested in Chicago Bulls All-Star Zach LaVine, who has been unhappy with his situation.
LA is expected to check in with the Bulls for a potential trade down the line, and maybe they can come to an agreement. NBA insider Shams Charania provided some insight into what Chicago may want back from LA in a potential LaVine trade. “The Bulls, I’m sure, would covet Austin Reaves in any potential Zach LaVine trade,” Charania said.
Losing Reaves would be tough for the Lakers, and the front office may not be willing to move him. He is one of the more important pieces to this squad, and he is on a very team-friendly contract right now. LaVine would be a great addition, but having Reaves and LaVine together would be the idea.
LA has some other pieces that could entice the Bulls into a potential deal. However, the Bulls may only be okay with dealing LaVine to LA if Reaves is included. If that is the case, the Lakers will have a very tough decision to make. LaVine would give the Lakers a much better chance to win the NBA title this season, and his skill set would fit alongside their other stars.
He could take some of the ball-handling duties away from James and has the athleticism to attack the basket with force. His ability to create his own shot would help this team as well, and he is a good three-point shooter. He is having a down year from deep right now at 33.6 percent, but he is a career 38.2 percent shooter.
Landing LaVine would be a very interesting move for the Lakers, but it remains to be seen if LA would pull the trigger. This is one scenario to watch as the trade deadline gets closer
