Lakers Announce New-Look Starting 5 Vs Spurs For Friday

Will this still be enough without Anthony Davis?

The bad news, in case you missed it: your Los Angeles Lakers will be missing a whopping three of their starting five players tonight, for their second duel against the West’s worst team, the 3-20 San Antonio Spurs, in three nights. Point guard D’Angelo Russell, small forward Cam Reddish, and center Anthony Davis will all be absent, as will rookie guard Jalen Hood-Schifino and reserve guard Gabe Vincent.

The good news: LA should still win this game, despite playing against a mostly-healthy Spurs club missing just one rotation guy, big man Charles Bassey (out with an ACL tear).

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Austin Reaves will finally return to LA’s starting five, where he will man the point (as, I think, he should do even when D’Angelo Russell does come back). He’ll be joined by sophomore shooting guard Max Christie in the backcourt. Taurean Prince will move back to the small forward role with Reddish out, LeBron James returns to the lineup after missing Wednesday’s 122-119 win over the Spurs, and reserve center Jaxson Hayes will be slotted in as Davis’ replacement.

The Spurs haven’t officially announced their starters, though the club will most likely start Malaki Branham, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Jeremy Sochan alongside Wemby.
