West Brom’s contract situation as five key players head into their final year

West Brom are in the midst of a significant summer of recruitment. The first-team squad has been extensively reduced in size, with plenty of work ongoing now in order to flesh out the group at Carlos Corberan’s disposal.

Many players were released at the end of their respective contracts this summer; Matt Phillips, Erik Pieters, Adam Reach and Nathaniel Chalobah were among a host of first team performers who ended their Hawthorns stays, while the club’s loanees – including star Mikey Johnston – all departed at their end of their arrangements.

So far, Albion have added five new faces, with more on the horizon. What is for sure is that next summer looks as significant as this summer by way of personnel and expiring contracts. Albion have already moved to raise funds by selling players whose deals were running down – namely Okay Yokuslu, Conor Townsend and Brandon Thomas-Asante – and a familiar challenge lies ahead.

Grady Diangana, Kyle Bartley (+1 year option), Reyes Cleary (+1 year option), Ted Cann (+1 year option), Darnell Furlong, Semi Ajayi, Jayson Molumby, John Swift, Harry Whitwell, Matt Richards, Ronnie Hollingshead, Alex Williams, Eseosa Sule, Akeel Higgins, Mo Faal, Layton Love, Josh Shaw, Reece Hall, Fenton Heard (+1 year option)Adriel Walker (+1 year option), Archie Kirton (+1 year option)

As this summer was, so will next summer’s – Albion have a number of first-team players heading into the final year of their deals, namely Jayson Molumby, Grady Diangana, Semi Ajayi, John Swift and Kyle Bartley, who signed on for another year. Then come a host of exciting young prospects, including Harry Whitwell and and Fenton Heard.
