Crystal Palace admin deals Marc Guehi blow to Newcastle United amid £60m transfer news

Crystal Palace appear determined not to allow star defender Marc Guehi to leave Selhurst Park easily this summer despite reports of serious transfer interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

The Shields Gazette has reported that the Magpies have seen a first bid rejected by Crystal Palace for the England international, who made 25 top flight appearances last season in a campaign hampered by a knee injury between February and April.

Guehi has emerged as one of the top flight’s most reliable centre-backs, attracting interest from a number of suitors this summer. Liverpool and Manchester United had also been named as suitors, but it is now Newcastle United who are frontrunners.

The Tyneside outfit are expected to return with another bid for Guehi, who is valued at £60 million by Crystal Palace. That could see the Magpies break their transfer record of £63 million forked out for Alexander Isak.

It had been suggested that a deal could be completed in time for Guehi to play for Newcastle United in their opening match of the Premier League season against Southampton at St James’ Park later this month. However, the Crystal Palace social media team shared an image of Guehi returning to training with the South London club on Wednesday.

Guehi did not travel to the USA with the Eagles after being given a period of rest following his exploits in Germany as part of the England team that finished as runners-up at Euro 2024 this summer. Reports of any imminent Magpies move are clearly not quite true with the player still preparing for a new season with his current club.

Crystal Palace face Nantes at Selhurst Park on Saturday in their final pre-season fixture with all eyes on whether Guehi features for Oliver Glasner amid the latest transfer news.
