Draymond Green was recently ejected for his swing at Jusuf Nurkic during the Golden State Warriors vs Phoenix Suns game. Green’s comments during the post-game press conference have sparked debate about Green’s character and motivation.
Stephen A. Smith speaking on his show First Take on ESPN gave his opinion on Green’s latest incident. Smith who respects and loves Green was left dumbfounded by his latest action. This is the third ejection of the season for Green adding to the 5 game suspension he has already served. All things considered, Smith went on to say:
Draymond Green is going to get suspended for about 10 games, minimum. Stephen A. Smith on First Take
Smith mentions that his sources have informed him that the league office was discussing this topic at the same time Smith was speaking on air.
Stephen A. Smith says that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will be involved in the decision-making this time. Given Draymond Green’s continuous history of aggravated behavior, the decision has to be a sound one. They will take into account whatever Green said in the post-game interview. Jusuf Nurkic of the Phoenix Suns spoke during the press conference that he thought Green could have choked him. Nurkic asked if everything was alright with Green and that he needed help.
This sends a different message to the league as per Smith. The league will be considering mental health issues. Smith believes that continuous violations will force the league to take drastic action. The league will put the hammer down.
Draymond Green suspended indefinitely
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the NBA has indefinitely suspended Draymond Green. Wojnarowski detailed that NBA commissioner Adam Silver, executive vice president and head of basketball operations Joe Dumars and Andre Iguodala, Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association were at the meeting to decide on this incident.
Meanwhile, Wojnarowski goes on to add that the people involved in the decision-making want Green to get help. Woj thinks Green agreed to get help. This decision was taken with the agreement of all parties involved in the discussion. Without keeping a specific number of games in mind, it would allow Green to take the time he needs.
Fans and analysts around the world sure hope this is a step toward getting better. Green is too important a cog in the Golden State Warriors‘ desire to play for a championship this season. They too want Green back and healthy to drive towards that goal.
