Jack Clarke makes his feelings very clear on failed move

Jack Clarke has responded to missing out on a move from Sunderland to West Ham United in January.

West Ham were heavily linked with a move to sign Jack Clarke from Sunderland in the January transfer window, but the Black Cats’ £20 million demands proved to be too much for us in the end.

Hammers boss David Moyes ended up allowing Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma to leave the London Stadium, and failed to bring in a forward before last week’s deadline.

Had the Scot brought Clarke, 23, to the club, I would have been more than happy for the Spaniard and the Algerian to leave.

However, that didn’t happen, and now West Ham are dangerously short when it comes to attacking options – so much so that it could end up costing us our shot at the top six.

Missing out on Clarke was a big blow as far as I’m concerned, but what does the former Leeds and Tottenham star think about his failed move from Wearside to East London?

The Black Cats winger spoke to the Sky Sports cameras after his side’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on Sunday.

And Clarke responded when asked about strong links with a move to the Hammers during the January window:

“Honestly, I’m happy to be here, and I’m still enjoying every minute in a Sunderland shirt and for me, the stuff that gets said on the outside doesn’t seem to bother me. As long as I’m coming in every day and wearing a Sunderland shirt I’m happy.”

Clarke has been in superb form Sunderland this season, bagging 13 goals and four assists in 32 Championship games (Transfermarkt).

He would have been a really useful option for us for the remainder of this season and beyond. It will be interesting to see how he performs for the Black Cats between now and the end of the season and whether or not West Ham make a another move to sign him in the summer.
