INTERVIEW: Robins on Oxford win & Godden 50th goal

Godden’s goals brought up his 50th for the Club, making him the first man since Gary McSheffrey to hit that milestone.

“I think it was a really professional performance. We took the lead pretty quickly and we were on top in the game and then for whatever reason we drop a little bit and we concede a really poor goal on the edge of the box.

“It was one step forward and a step back and then thankfully we had a really decent spell on the ball.

“Ellis showed what he’s all about, got down the side of them and then cut inside really quickly. We’ve got the break from midfield and then he has the presence of mind and the quality to lay it across on a plate for Ben Sheaf and he dispatched it.

“Then you get the goal. The goal, was absolutely Kasey esq. He picks the ball up in positions like that and he looks silky with it and then as soon as he shapes right and he hits it you think it’s got a chance and it flies in the top corner, it’s a phenomenal goal.”

Milan van Ewijk coming off at half-time…

“We keep talking about the fatigue levels and you could see it one or two. Milan looked out on his feet, as did Tatsu, but he was probably a little bit better than Milan, today, but Milan looked a bit leggy.

“We just wanted to try and keep that pace and the emphasis and let them feel that speed and they were pretty good.”

Second half display…

“Second half, we came out and we kept moving the ball really quickly and it made them adjust and have to be quicker than they could.

“There was some really good interplay between Kasey, Callum and Tatsu and Jay Dasilva when he came on, Bidders down that side and, and Joel and Milan in the first half and I think there was some brilliant play with Sheafo and Josh Eccles behind that.

“We were good and then you get the penalty with Callum and dispatches it really well.”

Ellis Simms performance…

“I thought Ellis was a bit unlucky with some of his chances. He tried and he got into some good positions, and we were trying to free him up to get his shots away.

“One of them the keepers made a save with his legs that could have just gone through there and ended up in the back of the net and he’s just been a bit unfortunate really.”

Matty Godden’s brace off the bench.

“The game was crying out for Matty Godden. He comes on and scores two typical Matty Godden goals.

“He finds a little bit of half a yard and finds the corner of the net and then he scores a brilliant goal into the far corner again to round it off with six the only blemish.”

Next week and the FA Cup draw…

“We’ve got a big game next week to look forward to and also we’re in the hat for the next round.

“Hopefully we can be at home again in the next round and we can maybe have another nice little run.”

Matty Godden scoring his 50th goal for the Club…

“I think that is a really good achievement.

“He is professional to the nth degree, he gets himself in a really good positions and he’s disappointed not to be starting all the time, but having said that, I assured him yesterday that the minutes are very, very similar between both him Haji and Ellis.

are very similar.

“I was pleased with Matty’s contribution again and his finishing is outstanding.”
