Carlos Corberan issues big West Brom injury update – player could return for Sheffield Wednesday clash

Jayson Molumby was forced to miss the Baggies’ 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle at the weekend, prompting a first starting XI change of the season from Corberan.

Uros Racic came in and had a decent game in central midfield alongside Alex Mowatt. The Sassuolo loanee assisted Josh Maja’s 62nd-minute winner and maintained an 83% passing success rate, though he was dribbled past on five occasions.

“Fortunately it is not a big injury,” Corberan said after the Plymouth win. “He suffered in the calf a grade one B injury which will move him [out of the team] for seven to 10 days from in the last week, so let’s see how he progresses,” Corberan admitted.

That time scale, back-dating to before the clash with Argyle, brings Molumby into potential contention for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday. There are no guarantees but a decent couple of training sessions at the tail end of the week could see Molumby back in the side.

Currently top of the Championship standings after a fifth win in six matches, West Brom head to Hillsborough full of confidence. It’s a good time to play Wednesday, too, as Danny Rohl’s team have claimed merely four points out of an available 24 so far.

Albion, with or without Molumby, will be keen to pile the misery on Wednesday and reinforce the lead at the summit of the Championship.
