Given how he left Wolverhampton Wanderers, it was always going to be vital that West Ham made Julen Lopetegui feel backed in the transfer market.
While Tim Steidten is in control of transfers, he seems to have a good relationship with the Spaniard and was eager to provide him with his top target.
As a result, the Hammers signed Max Kilman, the man that Lopetegui made captain during his time at Wolves and he’s set to be a vital player at the London Stadium.
Unsurprisingly, the Englishman has settled in really well, not only thanks to knowing the gaffer so well, but thanks to the friendly nature of everyone at the club. “Everyone’s welcomed me really well,” he told Sky Sports. “The players, the staff, they’ve all treated me really nicely.”
“I feel really welcomed here already. It’s a great club to be part of and I just can’t wait to start the season and just keep pushing on.”
Moving to West Ham is more than just a change of workplace though, it also means the centre-back has been able to move back to the city he grew up in, an opportunity he’s been overjoyed with.
“Obviously, I’m a Londoner born and bred, but of course I’m moving to a different part of London to where I grew up. I’m just happy to be back, but more importantly I just want to do my best for West Ham and to keep progressing as a player.”
Thankfully, Kilman doesn’t have to do all the work himself as he’s got an immense defensive partner to play alongside in Jean-Clair Todibo. Hopefully the two can click straight away and play to each others strengths because, if they do, it has the potential to be one of the best centre-back pairings in the Premier League.
