Manchester City are back in Premier League action this evening as they take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium.
Pep Guardiola confirmed on Wednesday that striker Erling Haaland would not be available for the clash with the Seagulls. Explaining the Norwegian’s absence, the Catalonian head coach said: “Erling is not ready for tomorrow.
“It’s not a big issue but he’s not allowed for this game.” Fortunately, John Stones and Phil Foden will both be available for the game against Roberto De Zerbi’s side so with that in mind MEN Sport has attempted to predict the line-up for tonight’s clash.
The Brazilian shot-stopper dropped to the bench on Saturday night as the cup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was favoured. The German did well against Chelsea but there is no reason why Ederson won’t return today.
Defenders – Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji
Stones’ availability for Thursday night’s game means he should be given the nod to keep his place in the squad. City’s defence has been strong in recent weeks so it is difficult to drop one.
Having not started at Wembley Stadium, Dias is backed to return with Nathan Ake being given the rest albeit it is entirely possible he replaces Akanji at left-back.
City have no other choice but to push for a win against Brighton so keeping the duo of Foden and De Bruyne together in the centre seems like it makes the most sense. Rodri, when fit, remains undroppable.
Forwards – Bernardo Silva, Julian Alvarez, Jeremy Doku
Haaland’s injury means Alvarez seems destined to start in the centre-forward role. Jack Grealish and Doku are interchangeable but to rotate the squad, you would back the Belgian to start on the left wing.
