The Buffalo Bills stayed hot to win their third straight game, but not without a scare as they survived against the Los Angeles Chargers to win 24-22 on Saturday.
This game may not as been as pretty as the 31-10 demolition of the Dallas Cowboys the week before, but the important part is that the Bills won and bolstered their playoff chances even further. Considering the fate of some of the league’s other top teams this week, Buffalo will gladly take the win and move forward.
Even with the scare, the Bills remain among the league’s elite teams heading into the final two weeks of the season. USA Today placed Buffalo at No. 4 on its latest power rankings, ahead of the Detroit Lions and behind the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Given their season-ending charge, his 40 TDs produced (27 passing, 13 rushing), and the apparent front runners mostly stuck in reverse, is QB Josh Allen going to wind up as the league MVP?” USA Today writes.
Allen’s MVP case has certainly grown over the Bills’ current three-game winning streak, and if they do get into the playoffs he will be a serious contender for the award.
That said, the entire team deserves credit for this turnaround. The offense has looked substantially better since Joe Brady took over as offensive coordinator, while the defense has also stepped up in recent weeks.
While the Bills haven’t officially clinched a playoff spot (they can this week with a win over the New England Patriots and losses by the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers), they are certainly playing like a team that no one wants to see in the postseason.
