Four Leeds Stars ‘will leave’ if they don’t go up but one big name will stay

Leeds United will be forced to sell Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, Jack Harrison and Dan James this summer if they fail to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Whites and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who is well connected at his former club, was adamant that the quartet would be sacrificed as the club’s troublesome finances make it “impossible” for them to stay.

Leeds owe £190million in unpaid transfers from Andrea Radrizzani’s era at Elland Road and published £33.7million of losses in their account last month after player sales.

Daniel Farke’s automatic promotion hopes are bleak, with second-place Ipswich Town only needing to avoid defeat against Huddersfield on Saturday to secure a return to the Premier League.

Leeds retaining stars ‘impossible’ if promotion bid fails – Robinson
Robinson claimed that Leeds need to sanction major departures to help alleviate their financial pressures this summer if the riches of the top flight evade them.

“If Leeds are in the Championship, these players will leave,” he told Football Insider.

“The financial situation there is well documented and the figures are there for all to see.

“There are unpaid transfer fees and there’s debts which leads to one thing – selling players.

“They have assets in Summerville, Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto that will have to go.

“I’d like to think that Archie Gray would like to stay as it would be good for his development.

“But there’s a lot of quality in that squad and they have a lot of players out on loan who have value.

“The likes of Jack Harrison can be sold and the money can be replenished back into that side.

“It’s impossible, when you stack up the figures at Leeds, that they can keep hold of these players again in the Championship.

“That would give them a lifeline to keep hold of these players.

“Another Championship season will make it impossible.”
