Fans of Justin Fields See Another Indication That He’s Returning

For Justin Fields supporters, it takes very little to generate hope.Last week it was a highlight video released by the Bears. It had to be a sign they plan to keep Fields at quarterback if they put out a highlight video of his season, right?

Before that it was a web page publicizing next season’s game in London with Fields’ image on it. They had to plan to keep Fields if they publicize a trip to London using him, right?

This week’s sign from the heavens is Kliff Kingsbury, the former Cardinals head coach who failed to get the Bears offensive coordinator position.

When the Raiders appeared set to hire Klingsbury as offensive coordinator, speculation began centering on that team giving away a cache of future draft picks to the Bears for the right to move up and draft Caleb Williams.

The logic was Kingsbury worked with Williams at USC last year as QB coach and the Trojans had used the Air Raid offense that USC coach Lincoln Riley used with Williams as his QB.

Whether any of this was enough to keep the Bears from simply drafting Williams to be their quarterback is anyone’s guess at this point, but at least there appeared to be a link for Williams with the Raiders.

Suddenly, everything has changed.

According to an ESPN report, Kingsbury withdrew from consideration for the Raiders offensive coordinator job and is being considered for the Washington Commanders job. The reason given was the “talks broke down.”

This is entirely impactful on the Bears’ QB situation at No. 1 in draft order using the logic of Fields supporters. Williams is from the Washington area and now it’s possible the Commanders would want to trade up and get him from the Bears so he could work with their new offensive coordinator, Kingsbury.

Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd had looked like a fool for saying Williams didn’t want to come to Chicago. But Cowherd also had said he thought the Bears would trade the pick to Washington.

There was no reason to think Cowherd was right, but now at least it would appear there is a possibility it could actually happen.

None of this counters the real possibility that the Bears don’t want to trade the pick and want Williams to be their quarterback. That is all mere background noise for Fields supporters as they get ready to hear about the trade of the first pick to Washington so it can take Williams.

If it came about, then Justin Fields backers in Chicago would be overjoyed and on Saturday they already were popping back up on social media after the trend for weeks in mock drafts has said most people believe the Bears will draft Williams.

Moving down from the first pick to the second pick on the Jimmy Johnson value chart probably would mean the Bears probably net only a second-round pick from the Commanders. They gave Washington a second-rounder of their own for Montez Sweat, so they’d essentially be getting Sweat and getting back the pick they gave to get him.

It’s entirely speculation at this point and Kingsbury hasn’t even been named the Commanders offensive coordinator yet.

Washington just hired Dan Quinn as head coach. Formerly the Falcons head coach before he was Dallas defensive coordinator, there’s no reason to think Quinn would want to run an offense like Kingsbury has run but according to ESPN there is a connection here.

Still, it’s the kind of thing sure to set off everyone on Bears social media looking for a sign from the heavens that Fields is back.
