Enzo Maresca down his critics respond in style 3-1 win

Enzo Maresca was pleased to give the Leicester City crowd the win they craved but vowed “never” to change his approach amid criticism last week.

City’s promotion fate remains in their power after they earned just their second win in seven matches against Norwich on Monday. The 3-1 success was secured by the club’s most dominant 90-minute performance for months.

For the first time since Maresca took charge, there was a significant negative reaction at the end of the defeat to Bristol City last Friday, something the manager said was “understandable”. But amid calls for a plan B, Maresca stuck to his guns and vowed his team would always be playing his way, as they did to great effect against the Canaries.

“I think the fans were there,” Maresca said in his post-match press conference. “We tried to make them happy by winning a game. I can understand that for them it’s the only thing that matters, the only thing that is important.

“As you know – we said it many times – we have our way to try to win the game since the start. I can understand sometimes that they want us to attack more direct. But it’s not going to happen, never, while I’m here.”

There was joy and relief in equal measure at the result, with big celebrations on the touchline when Jamie Vardy scored City’s third goal in added time. Maresca went wild with Stephy Mavididi, Abdul Fatawu, and Wilfred Ndidi.
