The Athletic reported on Tuesday that a deal between Dortmund and Forest was “not far off,” though there were still elements yet to be finalized.
Forest is aiming to include a purchase option in the loan, which would run through the end of the current season.
Reyna has been expected to move this month after changing agents to Jorge Mendes, and it is one of the Portuguese’s longtime club partners who appear to be closest to landing the U.S. men’s national team star.
The 21-year-old attacker seems to have finally grown tired of being a bit-part player in Dortmund, having started just two games this season after coming back from a fractured leg suffered in the summer.
He’s been linked with clubs all around Europe this month, but the Premier League outfit looks to have stolen a march on the competition.
At Forest, Reyna would be reuniting with his USMNT teammate Matt Turner, who has been the club’s starting goalkeeper for most of the season. Another USMNT goalkeeper, Ethan Horvath, is also on the roster, but could be headed for a move away this January after finding himself third on the depth chart.
Reyna would be thrown into a relegation battle with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, which is currently just two places and four points above the drop zone.
