The New York Giants will spend this offseason retooling their team, mainly their offense. Their offense is so depleted that General Manager Joe Schoen has plenty of options for what positions to upgrade first.
Will it be an offensive lineman? Receiver? Edge? Cornerback? Arguments can be made for all of the above. However, with the Giants still having question marks around the future of their oft-injured quarterback Daniel Jones, who has been up and down through five seasons with his play, the quarterback is very much in play for the Giants, who draft sixth this year’s selection process.
And if the Giants draft a quarterback, CBS Sports NFL Draft writer Josh Edwards has a specific guy in mind: Tulane’s Michael Pratt, a quarterback that could probably be had toward the bottom of the first round or even on Day 2.
Pratt is a roller-coaster experience. He will make a dazzling throw but then throw a ball late over the middle that gets intercepted. He has a good feel for pressure and does a good job manipulating the pocket to find clear pass lanes. He is comfortable reading defenses and exploiting mistakes. His ability to throw with touch to all levels of the field gives hope that he could take on a starting role at the next level.
While at Tulane, Pratt threw for 2,406 yards and 22 touchdowns en route to being named the 2023 American Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year. He only threw five interceptions during his last collegiate season and never threw more than eight interceptions in a season in four years at Tulane.
Pratt’s memorable performance in the Cotton Bowl Classic against the University of Southern California, combined with his successful Senior Bowl outing, makes Pratt worth considering as a potential replacement for Jones.
