Crystal Palace set to land significant cash windfall as former defender Jake O’Brien nears an exit from French giants Lyon… with Premier League rivals interested in the 23-year-old
Crystal Palace will be owed a percentage of Lyon defender Jake O’Brien’s next move amid serious Premier League interest in the Republic of Ireland international.
The Eagles are in line for a significant cash windfall with O’Brien set to return to the Premier League this summer following an impressive season in Ligue 1.
Mail Sport understands the Selhurst Park side included a sell on clause of up to 25 percent when they sold him to Lyon last summer – although it is unclear whether the amount Palace would recoup is linked to how much profit Lyon make from the defender’s potential exit.
The price being mooted for O’Brien is in the region of £15million. Lyon signed him for just £850,000.
Another product of Palace’s famed scouting network, which has identified the likes of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton, the 6ft 6ins centre-back left south London in August 2023 as the Premier League side structured a deal with Lyon, who are owned by Eagles part-owner John Textor.
But after just one impressive season in France the Irishman is set to leave for a bigger club.
West Ham, who are also interested in Wolves’ Max Kilman, have an interest in O’Brien. Everton, too, are understood to have considered a move for the 23-year-old.
