Chicago Bears Suddenly Release Their Quarterback

This season, the quarterback position has presented the Chicago Bears with their fair share of challenges. It has been a difficult year for the squad, to put it mildly, with difficulties moving the ball down the field and injuries forcing the backups to step in. Following their devastating loss to the Detroit Lions last week, Chicago dismissed their quarterback, leaving the floundering offense with less options.

Trace McSorley, a quarterback who recently joined the practice squad, has been let go by the team. Tyson Bagent, the backup quarterback starting in place of the injured Justin Fields, has McSorely as his backup. A few weeks ago, Fields sustained a thumb injury that prevented him from playing until this past week, when he threw for 169 yards and a touchdown in the team’s defeat.

Throughout his career, McSorley has only appeared in nine NFL games, but in those games, he has passed for 502 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions. He played for the New England Patriots, the Arizona Cardinals, the Baltimore Ravens, and now the Bears. It will be fascinating to see which team signs him after he was released by Chicago.

This season has been one to forget for Chicago, and a large portion of the issues are on the offensive end of the field. Although Fields is having the best year of his career, the team has not yet seen success as a result of it. Supporters and pundits are demanding that Matt Eberflus, the team’s first-year head coach, be fired because of the way the squad is playing.

Chicago is currently last in the NFC North division with a record of 3-8. This week, they take on the Minnesota Vikings, their divisional opponents, on Monday Night Football. There are still rumors going around the NFL that Fields will be traded to another club in the upcoming offseason, but if the Bears have a successful season finale, they might be able to get better weapons and coverage for him.
