Celtic’s next transfer priorities after Nicolas Kuhn

Celtic are closing in on a transfer move for winger Nicolas Kuhn but the Bhoys are expected to add more talent to Brendan Rodgers’ squad before the end of January.

As discussed this morning, the Bhoys have sought and been granted a work permit for Kuhn to play football in Scotland as Celtic finalise negotiations with Rapid Vienna.

A move for the German looks imminent and it’s hoped he will add a creative cutting edge to the league leaders’ attacking play, with the player ranking highly within his league when it comes to setting up chances for teammates.

But what’s next for Celtic once Kuhn is in the door and confirmed?

Celtic looking for more January transfer deals

It seems that two more deals beyond Kuhn are in the offing, with an update coming this week from Football Scotland journalist Mark Hendry.

He’s reported that strikers and left-backs are actively being looked at by the Bhoys’ scouting and recruitment staff, with “lots of players” offered to the club by various agencies.

It’s said that “due diligence” is taking place on these talents, with Brendan Rodgers previously stating that he’s looking for quality to arrive that directly improves his matchday options.

A left-back would undoubtedly be a priority for many Celtic fans. There’s been an overreliance on Greg Taylor this term with Alexandro Bernabei nowhere near Rodgers’ plans. Taylor needs competition and quickly.

Another striker would also be welcome with Hyeongyu Oh and Daizen Maeda currently at the Asian Cup. Kyogo Furuhashi remains the prime choice at Celtic but competition and another rotation option is needed.

Meanwhile, it seems that the goalkeeping position will not be addressed in the current window, especially after recent comments from the manager.

He’s suggested that talks over Joe Hart’s future will not take place until towards the end of the current season, also hinting that he will be looking to recruit in that area during the summer window.
