The transfer window is open and it could be a busy one at Parkhead.
New Year brings with it optimism and hopes for the future. But far more importantly for football clubs and fans, it brings the opening of the transfer window.
Celtic are expected to do quite a bit of business after manager Brendan Rodgers admitted they need to add more quality to their squad after a very disappointing summer window. A huge squad needs to be trimmed first and departures are expected over the coming weeks but there will almost certainly be incomings too
Left-back is an area needing addressed and we’ve already seen a concrete link with Estoril’s Tiago Araujo. The former Benfica man can also play further forward and played with Jota and Paulo Bernardo at the Portuguese giants – and a huge hint was dropped when he commented on the latter’s social media following his strike against Rangers.
His club are looking for around around £4million so the Hoops will need to cough up if Araujo is the man they want to come in and compete with Greg Taylor.
New left centre-back may be on the way too with Scott McKenna reportedly an option after being made available for transfer by Nottingham Forest.
Rodgers would also like to add a striker and a midfielder. In terms of the attacking area, Brondby star Mathias Kvistgaarden is one that has been mentioned after Celts failed with a bid in the summer but the Parkhead club have been warned they must blow the Danes away for any offer to be successful.
Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski is another who has been scouted while another domestic talent, Hearts’ Lawrence Shankland has often been mooted as a potential target too.
Meanwhile, social media has been awash with rumours that Celtic have been offered Norwegian winger Ola Solbakken.
The 25-year-old, linked with the Hoops in the past, has been playing on loan at Olympiacos from AS Roma and has played against Celtic before for Bodo/Glimt.
It remains to be the seen if the rumours turn into anything concrete but it is certainly an interesting one.
Goalkeeper is another area that will possibly be looked at and Ipswich keeper Vaclav Hladky has spoken out after links to Celtic, while Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin is another to have been mentioned.
