Celtic transfer news latest with Kvistgaarden boost, Jota ‘release’

Celtic have been handed a boost if they still want to sign Mathias Kvistgaarden with the news that Schalke may not be able to afford him.

Brondby’s Danish striker is believed to still be on the Hoops’ wishlist after failing in a bid to sign him last summer. The German side could have been set to rival them but reports now suggest they will struggled to meet his club’s demands following a declaration that any offer would have to blow them away.

Football Scotland told you last month that Schalke had spoken to his representatives so if true that they will struggle to come up with the cash, that will be a boost to the Scottish champions. Meanwhile, Jota may be available on a free transfer with reports that Al-Ittihad will attempt to rip up his contract.

The Portuguese winger has been unable to play in the Saudi Pro League after failing to be registered as one of his new club’s foreign players. Celtic would surely love to have him back on a free, but a combination of wage demands and interest from English clubs could make things difficult.

Brendan Rodgers spoke about transfers ahead of the win over St Mirren yesterday and said: “There’s discussions and work that’s going on so hopefully we’ll get them in sooner rather than later. When we do, you’ll find out.”

It’s thought five Hoops players – Gustaf Lagerbielke, Yuki Kobayashi, Marco Tilio, Yosuke Ideguchi and Alexandero Bernabei – could leave but Rodgers appeared to rule that out from happening any time soon.

Star man Matt O’Riley is attracting interest and he was coy on his future after scoring yet again against St Mirren.

It was his 100th Hoops game and asked if there will be more, he said: “I think everyone knows how much I love playing for the football club. I have really enjoyed my time so far.

“The support I have received personally from the fans, especially this season, has been nice. And yeah, let’s see.”

Other names to have been linked to Celts are Tiago AruajoScott McKenna and Bojan Miovski.
