Previewing the Cup final between Aberdeen and The rangers for ViaPlay, Celtic legend Scott Brown expressed his astonishment upon learning the latest penalty statistics involving his former foes.
Known for his frank and often humorous take on the mob across the city, Brown’s reaction was a blend of surprise and laughter.
When informed that it had been 23 months and 71 games since Rangers last conceded a penalty in the league – a match in which Brown himself played for Aberdeen – his response was a mix of disbelief and humour. “Is that the last time they conceded a penalty?” Cited by RecordSport. “I’ve been retired that long… since they last had a penalty against them (in the league)! The stats in question trace back to a league match played in January 2022 at Pittodrie, where Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson scored in a 1-1 draw against Rangers. At the time, Brown was still a player for the Dons, but he has since hung up his boots and even stepped into a managerial role.
When asked about Aberdeen’s chances of getting a penalty in their upcoming Sunday game, Brown’s reply was succinct yet telling: “None. I don’t think Aberdeen will get a penalty on those stats! Wow.” This statement underscores the perceived improbability of the situation, given the longstanding duration since The Rangers last faced a penalty in a league match.
