Celtic are making a mistake by not playing 32-year-old player more

With a lot of chat surrounding Celtic, their players and the quality of their squad, Brendan Rodgers has been told that he needs to start playing one player a lot more now.

The Celtic manager has chopped and changed his side and in the wing areas, Rodgers seems unsure who is the best fit.

Hyunjun Yang, Mikey Johnston and, to a certain extent, Marco Tilio have all been tried and tested but all three have failed to stake a claim in the Celtic first team.

But there is one player that pundit, Gordon Dalziel, wants Brendan Rodgers to make better use of and it’s one player I don’t think many Celtic fans will agree with.

James Forrest should be starting more for Celtic – Dalziel

The radio pundit is in no doubt that the 32-year-old winger needs to be utilised more by Brendan Rodgers but many of the fans are convinced his best days are behind him.

Dalziel said [Clyde SSB], “Now if you’re bringing on someone else, a younger, fresher player that’s breaking into the first team.

“I can totally accept that. They can bring on a natural left-back to play one in front when you’ve got the winger in James Forrest, a former Scottish international.

“How many medals? How many games has he played with Celtic? How many goals has he scored?

“He’s still got something to offer.”

I’ll agree with Dalziel on one area hear. Forrest does have a lot to offer, just not for the Celtic first team.

Whilst he will go down as a legend at the club and I have the utmost respect for him, Forrest cannot be allowed to become a starter this season.

He can be a useful off the bench but long gone are the days where his pace made him one of the most dangerous players in the Scottish Premiership.

Forrest’s role should now be behind the scenes. I believe he would be a magnificent asset as a coach to the youngsters coming through the system.

He would be a massive motivator to any young player hoping to make it at Celtic as he is now one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
