Callum O’Hare has provided an update on his contract situation at Coventry City. The Sky Blues favourite scored two goals to sink Birmingham City in Friday night’s big Midlands derby at the CBS Arena where nearly 23,000 home fans sang his song aloud in the biggest attendance of the season so far (26,729) – making for a terrific atmosphere.
“It’s the best feeling ever,” said the 25-year-old attacking midfielder, when asked about the supporters singing his name. “I always say the fans here are so good. Even if you’re not playing well they still don’t get on your back, and that’s unbelievable and makes you feel so good.
“Obviously sometimes if you’re not playing so well it would be understandable for them to have a go because they pay their money, but they even if you miss a chance they will sing my name. Honestly it’s special.”
O’Hare will be out of contract next summer and could leave as a free agent unless he signs a new deal. When he first returned to fitness in October after ten months out with an ACL injury, club owner Doug King gave an update on the situation, saying: “We know where he is in his contract situation and clearly we really rate him – and we’ve opened discussions and we’ll see how that all unfolds.”
O’Hare said at the time: “I haven’t spoken to the club much about anything. I said to my agent, ‘listen, I’m injured and all I want to do is focus on getting back fit and playing and then when I am back fit then we can start talking properly.”
But when asked after Friday night’s match winning display when he’s going to make the supporters happy by signing, the player said: “It’s nothing to do with me. Nothing has been put to me so I can’t say anything. I can’t sign anything that hasn’t been put in front of me.”
Asked if he’s keen to stay, he added: “Obviously I love it here but unless something is put to me I can’t do anything about it.”
