Celtic take on St. Mirren later this evening in their final game before the winter break. The Hoops will be eager to follow up on their pivotal Glasgow derby victory over Rangers on Saturday.
The match against the Paisley Saints is The Bhoys’ last before the winter break. After that, they don’t have a game pencilled in for two and a half weeks.
The next time the champions are in action after St. Mirren is against Buckie Thistle on the 21st of January. Before then, the players will have some time off, confirmed Rodgers: “The players will get a little bit of time – they need that”, he said (Glasgow Times).
“They’ll have a break to maybe spend a wee bit of time with their families. They’ll have some work they need to do while they’re away but it’s a good chance to reset before going again. We have a spell without any games before we play in the Scottish Cup. So we can do a lot of work in that period.”
With the packed schedule of the footballing calendar, the Celtic players undoubtedly deserve their upcoming break. Particularly over the festive period, the Celts seem to be constantly preparing for a game.
This winter, Celtic are not heading to any warm-weather training camps but rather staying put in Glasgow. Previously under Rodgers, Dubai was a usual destination in January but not so this time around.
Instead, graft will be put in at Lennoxtown ahead of a pivotal second half of the season. It is in the upcoming months that titles and cups are won and lost, where players become heroes, and managers earn their wages.
Things are no different at Celtic and when they come back for the Buckie Thistle clash on January 21st, full focus goes on securing the Scottish Cup and the league title.
