Brendan Rodgers’ Comments On Potential Lagerbielke Exit

It was reported late on Friday evening that Celtic’s goal hero from last week’s Champions League win over Feyenoord, Gustaf Lagerbielke, could be set to leave the club.

His lack of inclusion in Saturday’s loss to Hearts appeared to confirm such suspicions.

His case remains a strange one, and manager Brendan Rodgers commented on it over the weekend: “Well, we shall see”, he said (Sportsound via Football Scotland). “Gus came in and scored the winning goal during the week, so yeah I think what will take place in January will sort itself out.”

At the minute, it doesn’t seem as though there is a long-term future for Lagerbielke at Celtic. Brought in for just under three million pounds (Transfermarkt) in the summer, he has managed just eight appearances for the club.

In those, he didn’t stand out but he wasn’t noticeably poor. A red card in Rotterdam was a low point for the 23-year-old, but he bounced back in the home tie against Feyenoord, nodding home the winner late on.

As well as this, he more than played his part in his side’s colossal 1-0 win at Ibrox earlier in the season. His lack of inclusion over the past few months, though, has been a point of note, and it doesn’t seem like he will be a Celtic player beyond January.
