Manchester United are reportedly intensifying efforts to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli, as the club seeks to bolster its attacking options following a disappointing 2024–25 season. United finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, prompting a significant squad overhaul under manager Ruben Amorim.
Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has had an impressive season, scoring 36 goals and providing eight assists in 40 appearances. His performance has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. United have reportedly made a verbal offer of €70 million to Napoli for Osimhen’s services.
Napoli, under manager Antonio Conte, are open to a player-plus-cash deal involving United’s Rasmus Højlund, who has struggled to make an impact since his £72 million move from Atalanta. The proposed deal would see Højlund return to Serie A, with United paying an additional £33.7 million to secure Osimhen.
Osimhen’s camp has expressed interest in a move to Manchester United, despite the club’s absence from European competitions next season. The striker views United as a prestigious club and is motivated by the prospect of becoming a key figure in their resurgence.
However, financial constraints could pose a challenge. Osimhen’s reported wage demands of £250,000 per week may be difficult for United to meet, given their current efforts to reduce the wage bill and comply with financial regulations.
Former United striker Odion Ighalo, who has mentored Osimhen, has publicly endorsed the move, stating that United would be the “perfect fit” for the Nigerian forward.
As negotiations continue, United fans await official confirmation, hopeful that Osimhen’s arrival could signal a new era of success at Old Trafford.
