Former Stoke City Youngster Joins League One Promotion Contenders
Lasse Sorensen has become Huddersfield Town’s first summer signing, according to the club’s official website.
Sorensen played a massive part in getting Lincoln City within touching distance of the playoffs last term, recording 44 appearances in League One, contributing an impressive four goals and eight assists.
The former Danish U-20 international started his career in the youth set-up at Stoke City, after joining from Esbjerg in 2016. He’d go on to make eight appearances for The Potters’ first team before being loaned out to Milton Keynes Dons in 2020. His performances in Buckinghamshire caught the attention of Lincoln, who brought him in on a permanent deal a year later, where he’s become a fan favourite among The Imps faithful, proving to be a reliable mainstay in their side.
After winning the Imps Partner’s Player of the Year, Sorensen’s contract was set to expire at Sincil Bank at the end of this season. However, the club decided to activate a one-year extension clause, making sure they acquired a transfer fee this summer.
The 24-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the John Smith’s Stadium after it was reported by Football Insider earlier today that Huddersfield Town had agreed an undisclosed fee with the Lincolnshire outfit over the move.
The Danish wing-back has predominantly applied his trade off the right-hand side this campaign but also has shown the necessary ability to play in the middle of the park as a defensive midfielder in the past.
Sorensen could be the perfect fit for Micheal Duff’s side as the Northern Irishman’s preferred formation during his time in this division was a 3-5-2, providing a position in the team the former Stoke man should be rather familiar too.
Writer’s View:
The signing makes complete sense from a Terriers perspective, with Huddersfield being able to bring in a player of this quality for a cut-price deal considering his current contract situation it was a no-brainer.
For The Imps though it’s a shame as they’re losing a key asset to their attacking cohort, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if everyone at the Sincil Bank would’ve wanted to keep the Dane for ten more seasons, however, sometimes that’s just how football goes. Nevertheless, Sorensen can look back on his time in red and white as a resounding success.
