We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Christopher Potter, a lifelong and devoted supporter of Rangers FC, in Istanbul just ahead of our UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first leg match against Fenerbahce last week.
Christopher was a hardworking, devoted family man whose love for those close to him knew no bounds. Known for his affable personality, he was the type of person who would strike up a conversation with anyone, making him a social butterfly in every sense. He could light up any room, and those who knew him would often joke that he would be the first to show up to any event—he truly was the life and soul of every party.
Beyond his wit and charm, Christopher had a remarkable sense of humor and a love for karaoke. He never hesitated to step up to the mic and belt out some well-known classics, bringing joy to all who were around him. He was born and raised in Dennistoun, Glasgow, and was affectionately known as “Mr. Duke Street” for his deep knowledge of the area. His friends often remarked that they would never walk along Duke Street without Christopher offering details about every building and its history.
In his personal life, Christopher was a loving father to his three children—Jak, 20, Millie, 13, and Teddy, 6—and a devoted husband to his wife, Holly, 38. His passion for Rangers FC was legendary, and he held a season ticket for many years. His love for the club was so strong that he named his youngest son, Teddy, after the club’s beloved “Teddy Bears” nickname. His frequent visits to Ibrox, especially to see his son Teddy’s brick, were a testament to the bond he shared with both his family and the Rangers community.
Christopher’s passing while following the team he loved so dearly has provided his family with some comfort during this difficult time. The Potter family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the Rangers family and the wider footballing world.
Christopher will always be remembered as one of a kind, a true friend, and a passionate Rangers supporter. In his honor, we encourage all supporters attending tomorrow’s match at Ibrox to join in a minute’s applause on the 40th-minute mark, paying tribute to a man who touched the lives of so many.
The thoughts of everyone at Rangers are with Christopher’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
