ROME – SPORT (SOE): World No. 2 Jannik Sinner is choosing to remain positive after his semifinal defeat to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Italian Open, calling the loss a β€œgood lesson” as he shifts focus to the upcoming French Open at Roland Garros.

Sinner, who was competing in front of a passionate home crowd in Rome, fell to Alcaraz in a tightly contested battle that saw moments of brilliance from both young stars. The Italian, who has enjoyed a strong season so far, was candid in his post-match remarks, emphasizing that such setbacks are part of his growth process.

β€œIt’s a good lesson,” Sinner said during the post-match press conference. β€œMatches like these teach you a lot. Of course, losing in front of your home crowd is never easy, but Carlos played better in the key moments. It’s part of the journey.”

Sinner was looking to win his first Italian Open title but came up short against the Spaniard, who is proving to be a consistent rival on the ATP Tour. Alcaraz’s aggressive baseline play and strategic shot selection proved too much on the day. Still, Sinner managed to push the match to a high level, which he believes will be crucial in his preparation for the French Open.

β€œThe positive thing is that I feel good physically and mentally,” Sinner added. β€œThere are always things to improve, and this match showed me what I need to work on ahead of Roland Garros.”

With less than two weeks until the second Grand Slam of the year, Sinner remains one of the top contenders. His consistent performance throughout the clay season has placed him among the favorites, and his hunger for success is evident.

β€œThe goal is to learn quickly and arrive in Paris stronger. I’ll rest a little, then get back to work,” he concluded.

As Sinner regroups and looks ahead, fans are already anticipating a potential rematch between the two young stars on the grand stage of Roland Garros.
