Ex-loanee Brandon Williams released by Manchester United
Brandon Williams, who spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town, has been released by parent club Manchester United.
The 23-year-old came through the Red Devils’ academy system, scoring one goal for them across five years in the first team. He also had a loan spell with Town’s arch-rivals Norwich City as they were relegated from the Premier League in 2021/22.
He joined the Blues back in August 2023 and played 17 games in total, scoring crucial goals against Huddersfield Town and Preston North End.
Although he was a regular in the early stages of the campaign, injury and illness limited his availability throughout his stint in Suffolk. He played his last game for Town in the 0-0 draw with QPR on December 29th and returned to United for medical assessment the following month.
Town boss Kieran McKenna was open to his return, but it never materialised. He shared a message to Ipswich supporters via Instagram following his departure, and it has since been announced that he will also leave Manchester United at the end of his contract.
“Academy graduate, Brandon Williams will leave United following the expiry of his contract,” the club confirmed in their retained list. “The full-back, who joined the club at the age of nine and proudly went on to make 51 first-team appearances, will always be welcome back at the club through the Alumni programme.”
Williams, of Harpurhey, Manchester, is accused of driving an Audi A3 S Line on the A34 Ainslie Way in Wilmslow in a dangerous manner on August 20, 2023.
He denied both dangerous driving and driving without third-party insurance when he appeared at Chester Crown Court on April 19.
