Monday marked the beginning of the Denver Broncos’ Phase Three offseason exercises, which saw some rather significant players in attendance.
Practices and OTAs for Sean Payton have a reputation for being difficult, and Monday was no exception.
However, a major and unanticipated incident ruined the first day of OTAs. Crucial linebacker Drew Sanders, who was expected to have a big season, suffered a severe Achilles tear.
In addition to ending his 2024 season early, this injury has created a glaring hole in the roster and drastically changed the team’s pre-season tactics.
Sanders is entering his second season out of Arkansas and was viewed as a guy who can make a huge leap and be a big contributor.
Coming into the 2024 season, I had Sanders listed as the second LILB behind Cody Barton. He had a very strong case to take over the starting spot, too. Now, that will be a battle that linebacker Justin Strnad can have.
You hope he recovers because, as we all know, Achilles injuries almost never allow the player to return to full form. Knowing Sanders, though, he will be back.
