Arsenal legend Martin Keown has doubts over the suitability of Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres to spearhead the attack for his former club, claiming that the Swedish striker “is not quick enough” to fit the style of play demanded at the Emirates.
Gyokeres, who has impressed in Portugal with Sporting CP, has been linked with a potential move to the Premier League in recent months. However, Keown believes the 25-year-old may struggle to adapt to Arsenal’s fast-paced, high-pressing system under Mikel Arteta.
Speaking on a recent broadcast, Keown explained, “Gyokeres is a good player, but he doesn’t possess the kind of speed Arsenal need in a forward to truly lead the line. In a team like Arsenal, where quick transitions and pace in attack are critical, he might not be the best fit.”
Keown’s comments come amid growing speculation that Arsenal could be looking to bolster their attacking options following injuries to key players. While Gyokeres’ physicality and technical ability have made him a standout in Portugal, Keown stressed that pace is a non-negotiable quality for players in Arsenal’s forward roles.
While Gyokeres has proven himself in various European competitions, Keown’s critique highlights the difference between thriving in a league like the Primeira Liga and adapting to the rigors of the Premier League, especially in a team with the pressing intensity that Arsenal have unde
