ALL SET AND DONE: Club decides Che Adam’s future at ……..

“Maybe it’s time” – Claim made on Che Adams’ Southampton FC future

Southampton striker Che Adams is scheduled to be a free agent this summer, and there has been reported Premier League in the Scotland international.

The 27-year-old has been a key player for Saints during his five-year stint with the club, having returned good goal and assist numbers across the Premier League and the Championship.

And despite Southampton securing their place in the top-flight next season with play-off victory over Leeds United, whether Adams intends to play a part in that remains to be seen.

FLW has been speaking to our Southampton fan pundit Martin Sanders, to hear what he thinks will be the likely outcome in the Adams saga this summer.

Speaking to FLW, Martin said on Adams’ future: “Che Adams, I think he’d go no matter what to be honest, I think he’s probably looking for a move back to the Midlands personally.

“He’s been great for us, but maybe it is time to move on. I’d like to see him stay, will he score enough goals in the Premier League? No.

“Do I believe we need a goalscorer? Absolutely yes. I think we need to go and find a striker that’s going to find the back of the net, in my opinion.”

A move back to the Midlands is certainly something that appears to be on the cards this summer, as Wolverhampton Wanderers have been credited as being in advanced talks to sign Adams.

Whilst a return to Southampton hasn’t been officially ruled out, the Scotsman is evidently shopping his name around and entertaining the interest being shown in him.

Having one proven striker at your club at any given time is always far easier said than done, as clubs across the globe are in constant search for their next goalscoring phenomenon.

But in Southampton’s case, they have three. Adams has been working alongside Adam Armstrong and Ross Stewart at St. Mary’s, albeit with the latter having missed practically all of last season through injury.

It would be former Blackburn Rovers striker Armstrong who would end the 2023/24 season as Saints’ top scorer, with 21 goals and 13 assists to his name.

Compared to Adams’ 16 goals and four assists, – still an impressive return – Armstrong stamped his authority on who was to be Southampton’s main man in the Championship last season, but he has struggled to make the step up to top-flight level in the past.

Per Transfermarkt, Adams has 25 goals in 124 Premier League appearances, which doesn’t jump off the screen but compared to Armstrong’s return of four goals in 68 top-flight appearances, all of a sudden Adams looks to be potentially the better option.
